Rank is a measure of how honed are a unit's special abilities. Each unit has both passive and active abilities. Passive abilities have no cost and are "always on," i.e., the player automatically receives their benefit whenever appropriate. Active abilities become available at Rank 1 (and higher) and require the unit to spend Willpower (WP) in order to use them. Rank {1,2,3} active abilities cost {1,2,3} WP respectively; any ability Rank from 1 up to unit Rank can be used, by selecting the appropriate amount of WP. Armor (ARM) negates incoming Strength damage. When a Strength attack is made, the damage dealt is equal to STR(att)— ARM(def). Armor can reduced when attacked with Armor Break. (See also the battle page) Strength (STR) is a measure of both a units health and attack-damage. A unit's attack is gradually weakened as he loses STR throughout a fight; units die when their STR reaches 0. Willpower (WP) allows you to use your unit's special (active) abilities or exceed your normal potential in standard actions. In particular, you can spend WP to move farther, hit harder or do more armor-break. WP is the only attribute that can be replenished during a battle, by the resting or using the Horn. Exertion (EX) is an indicator of how much WP a unit can use on a given action. Example: A character with 3EX can move 3 extra squares in one turn at the cost of 3WP, then attack for +3STR damage at the cost of 3WP more. Meanwhile, a character with 1EX can only move 1 extra square for 1WP and/or attack for +1STR damage for 1WP. Armor Break (AB) is an indicator of how much armor damage the unit can do on a single attack. AB can be increased with the use of WP up to the amount of the units EX.
